Shoulder Box

Also known as: Shoulder and neck box

A shoulder box is built from three rigid boxes: an outer base, an inner box (the neck) and an outer lid. The neck is glued inside the base and rises above it; the lid slides over the neck and rests on the top edge of the base, the shoulder.

When closed, lid and body sit flush with a fine line between them. Opening it reveals the neck, often in a contrasting colour. It needs three separate builds plus assembly, so it is chosen where prestige comes first.

What you can customise

Every pack is made to order for your product and brand. Each of the points below is decided together at the quotation stage.

Neck height and colour: How much of the neck shows and which paper covers it are up to you.
Base/lid ratio: The height of the shoulder line is set by the design.
Layer thickness: Each layer can be 1.5 to 4 mm; 1.5–2 mm is most common.
Size: Inner dimensions are set to your product to the millimetre; you are not limited to stock sizes.
Board thickness: Chosen for the weight and feel of the box; we recommend 1.5, 1.8 and 2 mm and use imported board where possible.
Wrapping paper: Coated, kraft, textured specialty papers or book cloth; outer and inner surfaces can be chosen separately.
Print and finish: Offset print, matte/gloss lamination, hot foil, embossing and spot UV can be added one by one.
Inside surface: A plain white/black or a printed interior changes the cost noticeably; it should be specified in the brief.
Insert: Foam, cardboard dividers or EVA keep the product fixed inside the box.
